ARC appointed to lead the Airport Accessibility Group in the European Commission Observatory on airport capacity

The European commission new observatory on airport capacity was inaugurated in the beginning of November in Brussels.
The observatory will advise the Commission on ways to improve airport capacity in the air and on the ground. The Observatory launched three work packages; one on airport capacity lead by Eurocontrol and a second one called gate-to—gate including slots and flight plan issues, lead by European Union of Airport Coordinators Association, EUACA.

The third work package will address Airport Accessibility and Intermodality. The Airport Regions Conference, ARC, will lead the work.

- ARC is the right organisation to take the lead on Airport Accessibility, saysBengt Christensson , Secretary General of ARC.

ARC has over the years made several studies on the importance of surface access to airports. A pilot study this year revealed the necessity to address climate change and surface access in a comprehensive way, including the airlines, airports and regions. This is a challenge that has to be addressed by the different stakeholders together.

ARC has introduced a work programme called Climate Change and Surface Access.

- The Observatory provides a good platform for this programme and is the right platform to address airport accessibility, says the ARC President,Anne Devitt .
