- I am overwhelmed by this honour. We regard ARC as being a very important and competent organisation and we are thrilled by the opportunity to receive the award at the conference in Amsterdam, said Mathis Güller when given notice about the nomination.
Mathis and Michael Güller have for many years worked with ARC and members of the ARC on the concept of airport cities. Together with Mathis and Michael Güllerthe ARC in 2002 published the study “From Airport to Airport to City" This study clearly envisions the importance of an integrated approach by cities, airports and other stakeholders to actively and in an integrated manner transform the airport from being a transport node into a economic development vehicle for the airport region. From that study and onwards the work of the Güllers has clearly indicated the need for a comprehensive planning approach to tackle the potential for economic development in a sustainable way.
- The innovative and pragmatic approach developed by Mathis and Michael Gülleron spatial planning and urban architecture is an approach that has inspired numerous communities in airport regions, and is a good example of how to work in the spirit of the ARC mission, said ARC President Anne Devitt when presenting the award.
