QLAIR - Quality of Life in Airport Regions

The QLAIR project addresses the need for new and innovative ways to improve the quality of life for the citizens most affected by airport activities and airport expansion. The project identifies how instruments for mitigation, compensation and investments can be used in the areas most affected by airports.

The project also analyzes the role of Air Traffic Management and its impact on areas close to airports. It focuses on the value of safeguarding optimal land-use, flexibility and investments in restricted areas.

The reflexion undertaken by the lead of Noord Holland Region and municipality of Haarlemmermeer produced a number of in depth analyzes and a set of strategic guidelines. It has been endorsed by ARC as a reference to create competitive airport regions in which economic development, airport capacity and the improvement of the quality of life are equally balanced.
