Surface Access and Climate Change
The ARC has over the last decade been engaged in several studies on the relation between aviation growth, airport accessibility and public transport. Two major studies have been published. In 1999, “Promoting Public Transport in Airport Regions" and in 2007 “Airport Accessibility - a territorial approach". A pilot study was conducted in 2007 on Climate change and Surface access. Today the surface access group is preparing a project proposal with medium and long term sub- projects concerning
- CO2 emissions in airport regions related to aviation and surface access to airports.
- Airports and intermodality - the potential shift from plane to high speed train.
- A door to door perspective on air travels and traveller behaviour
The ARC Annual General Meeting in Malta 2007 agreed to develop a position on Climate Change. In order to start a discussion on how we as leading airport regions in Europe may have an influence in this area, a first meeting was held 31 March 2008 in Brussels.A first draft based on these discussions was discussed in the ARC Half Year Meeting in Tallinn in June 2008. A final document will be presented to the Annual General Meeting in 2008.
