Position statements
EU
legislation often impacts directly on the regional level.
For example, competition policy can change the lay out of an
airport and regional authorities often have to implement European
legislation. This is especially true for environmental laws. Regions also face rules on state aid and public
contracts. Therefore, it is important that European policy
makers are informed about the needs of airport regions. Individual regional voices would not
be heard easlily in Europe but together airport regions can make a stand. ARC has an office in Brussels, staffed by
the Brussels Information
Officer, and it has extended its lobby activities in the name of the airport regions. ARC presents itself as the expert on air transport issues in the regional
context.
