Airport Regions Council has organised today a successful European wide conference on
Sustainable Aviation Fuel and the ReFuel EU Aviation. More than 165 experts from the
entire aviation industry and representatives from local and regional authorities in airports’
vicinity have discussed this challenge together with high-level leaders from the EU
Commission and EU Parliament, airports, airlines and also from regions.
The welcome words of Mr Erich Valentin, ARC President, were followed by Mr Filip Cornelis,
Aviation Director of DG MOVE, who explained the proposal and the present situation of the negotiations. These were followed by the positions and comments of Søren Gade Jensen, rapporteur TRAN, Renew Europe Group, Nicolas Gonzales, opinion rapporteur ENVI, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and Jutta Paulus, opinion rapporteur ITRE, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance. Afterwards, panel discussions from different aspects (airports, airlines, regions and providers) approached the theme more in-depth. They shared their experiences, points of view and strategies for
solving the issue of complying with the European requirements.
Even though the topic was addressed from different perspectives, the objectives were the
same: fulfilling the goal to get a green aviation sector by 2050. As a conclusion of the
conference, the general expectation can be described as enhanced collaboration and
increased sharing of best practice in the future.
