Airports and regions play a crucial role in advancing sustainable aviation.
Watch this exclusive webinar below: BDO Zones: A Proven Program to Drive On-Site SAF Production for Airports and Regions
Webinar Summary:
This webinar, hosted by Airport Regions Council, introduced the BDO Zone Initiative, an innovative economic development tool designed to accelerate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
Jordan Solomon, President & CEO of Ecostrat and Chairman of the BDO Zone Initiative, explained how Biofuel Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone ratings help regions attract SAF projects by assessing feedstock availability, supply chain strength, and infrastructure readiness.
With over 61 BDO Zones established in North America, the model has already driven over $11 billion in investment and inspired new SAF plants such as those in Alberta (Canada) and Texas (USA). The initiative’s success has prompted plans to expand into Europe, with the newly formed International Biomass Rating Agency (IBRA) supporting global rollout.
Participants learned how regional airports and governments can use BDO Zone ratings to identify viable sites, attract investors, and create jobs — accelerating the transition to zero-emission aviation.
And a final point: The International Biomass Rating Agency is awarding one complimentary BDO Zone Rating in Europe to a select applicant who meets the required criteria. This initiative is designed to advance the BDO Zone Initiative and support the growth of sustainable bioeconomy projects across Europe.
